Rain could not dampen the enthusiasm expressed in signs, shout outs, and good wishes in a parade of cars organized by the teachers of Windsor Locks’ North Street School and South Elementary School on April 9.
The spirited display was directed to their students, many of whom waved from under umbrellas as they stood at socially accepted distances from each other on the neighborhood sidewalks. The caravan lasted close to two minutes.
Since mid-March the students have been attending classes online, due to the COVID-19 closing of schools. Gov. Ned Lamont recently said schools will remain closed until May 20, as Connecticut continues to stem the spread of the virus. “It’s at least a decision point,” Lamont told the Hartford Courant, saying “May 20 is the earliest we’d consider opening anything.”
