The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department has announced the passing of life member and past Chief Jerome “Jerry” Connors. Connors, a nearly 50-year member, joined the EVFD in September 1972. He served as a lieutenant from 1976-77, captain from 1977-78, second assistant chief from 1978-83 and as Chief of Department from 1983-90. Connors was also the chief of the Somers-Enfield Correctional Fire Department from 1981 until the department was disbanded by the state in 1997. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
