Dancing Their Way to the World Championships

A world championship is the most prestigious competition a ballroom dance couple can take part in.

Two people with a local connection — Evgueni Chaoulski and Sara Schilling, co-owners of EdanSe Company & Ballroom in Enfield — are doing just that as one of two couples representing Canada.

To qualify, Chaoulski and Schilling first took part Canada’s national championship. Only the first two couples in that competition were nominated to compete in the World Championships.

The World Ballroom Dance Championship will be judged on five dances: waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, and quickstep. Chaoulski is from Montreal, Canada, while Schilling is from Tolland. They met each other through a dance partner search website. They immediately hit the dance floor training, competing and dancing all over the world.

Now dancing for 12 years together, this will be their 8th World Championship they have been nominated to compete in. On a personal level, they are married and own EdanSe Company & Ballroom in Enfield, CT.

Their dancing has brought them to exciting places competing all over the U.S. and Canada, as well as internationally. On the international level, they have traveled to compete as far as Japan, Ukraine, Costa Rica, England, Austria and Russia.

Outside of competing, they are well known on the collegiate level as well, coaching the UConn Ballroom Team, Wesleyan University Team, Trinity Ballroom Team, and UMass Amherst’s Ballroom Team.

They own a dance studio, EdanSe Company & Ballroom, in Enfield where they teach. They describe EdanSe Company & Ballroom as a unique and fun place with lessons and social dances available to everyone. They offer all levels from beginners through advanced.

What makes ballroom exciting is that all ages from 3-93 can enjoy the same activity. From private lessons, group classes, and weekly Saturday dances, EdanSe shares their passion for dance to all.

Evgueni says “Ballroom changes people’s lives and gives back to people emotionally, mentally, and physically all while having a great time.”
