The proposal for lights for the Ellington High School football field is advancing to the Board of Education and the Planning and Zoning Commission for their recommendations following a unanimous vote by the Board of Selectmen at its July 8 meeting.
First Selectman Lori Spielman said she has talked to Superintendent of Schools Scott Nicol and that he has concerns about the placement of the lights in the football field and how they will affect those already in place, according to the minutes of the meeting.
Selectman David Stevens asked if temporary lights will be needed on the side the lights are not installed. Public Works Director Timothy Webb said depending on how far the lights go, that issue may need to be addressed. He added all town agencies involved will be part of the planning.
Selectman John Turner asked if the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has guidelines for field lighting.Webb said he is sure the CIAC does have guidelines and that those will be part of the discussion.
