The town budget will increase just under 2% for the 2019-10 fiscal year following the May 15 referendum.
By a vote of 581-396, voters adopted an overall town budget of $41,322,704, an increase of $705,618 or 1.74%.
The budget includes $10,410,449 for the Board of Selectmen, an increase of $195,282 or 1.91%; $571,188 for the Stafford Public Library, an increase of $29,079 or 5.36%; $2,288,850 for debt service, an increase of $88,040 or 4%; and $28,052,217 for the Board of Education, an increase of $393,217 or 1.42%.
The mill rate will be set at 34.93, an increase of 0.67 mills. A mill represents $1 in tax for every $1,000 of assessed property value.
A homeowner with a property assessed at $130,000 will pay $4,540.90 in property taxes.
