Hall Memorial Library, 93 Main St., will be offering programs on rock ’n’ roll and exploring Connecticut as it preps for summer in June.
On Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m. the Coffeehouse will present showman extraordinaire Brian Gillie with his show “The Roots of Rock n’ Roll.”
Gillie will introduce you to the personalities and songs that shaped the music of doo-wop, Motown, girl groups, surfin’, soul, novelty tunes, and much more. From Little Richard to the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry to Beatles, Elvis to the Supremes, the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame will be here.
Doors will open at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. show. As always, the music is free and refreshments, featuring cookies provided by Subway of Ellington, will be available for a donation.

On Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m., author and historian Marty Podskoch will be at Hall Memorial Library to discuss his new book “The CT 169 Club: Your Passport and Guide to Exploring Connecticut.”
Podskoch has worked with local experts in each of our state’s 169 towns to assemble the perfect guide for your summer explorations. Each entry includes highlights of the town’s location, history, and interesting places to visit.
Podskoch’s book has a space for travelers to journal about their experiences and a place to get the book stamped or signed by a resident or business. Books will be available for purchase and Podskoch will be happy to sign them.

The Adult Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. This year the club will be enjoying selections from the “PBS Great American Read.” Ask for this month’s title at the front desk and join the group for a lively discussion.
The library’s featured movies for the month are “Apollo 11” (rated G) on Wednesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 6 at 1 p.m.;
“Gloria Bell “(rated R) on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 13 at 1 p.m.
Also: “The Mustang” (rated R) on Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 20 at 1 p.m.;
and “Hotel Mumbai” (rated R) on Wednesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 27 at 1 p.m.
